Release Athens 2027<\/strong> welcomes Fontaines D.C.<\/strong> on Sunday 11 July<\/strong> at Markopoulo Complex<\/strong>. With their brand-new album Dopamine Chamber<\/em> earning rave reviews and their popularity soaring worldwide, the Irish band return to the festival for the fourth time. Having welcomed them since their early days, Release Athens will host them once again, this time as one of the biggest names of their generation!<\/p>\n

Fontaines D.C.<\/strong> return to Release Athens<\/strong> at a time when their career seems to know no limits. From their first appearance at the festival in 2019, alongside New Order, Johnny Marr and Morcheeba, to their headline set in 2025, Release Athens audiences have witnessed first-hand their transformation from an emerging post-punk band into one of the biggest names in contemporary rock.<\/p>\n

Their story began in Dublin, where Grian Chatten, Carlos O\u2019Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III and Tom Coll<\/strong> came together, united by a shared love of poetry and post-punk. Their debut album, Dogrel<\/em> (2019), earned a Mercury Prize nomination, while A Hero\u2019s Death<\/em> (2020) confirmed that they were far more than just another promising band. With Skinty Fia<\/em> (2022), they topped the UK Albums Chart, while Romance<\/em> (2024), featuring tracks such as \u201cStarburster\u201d, \u201cFavourite\u201d and \u201cIn the Modern World\u201d, marked a major turning point in their career.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Fontaines D.C.<\/strong> released their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber<\/strong><\/em>, via XL Recordings, produced by James Ford<\/strong> (Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, Blur, Gorillaz). With their new record, the band move further away from the guitar-driven sound of their early releases, marking the boldest musical shift of their career. From the striking \u201cMarianne\u201d and the truly wonderful \u201cJapan\u201d to \u201cTongue\u201d and \u201cWhere Is Gone?\u201d (featuring Rosal\u00eda<\/strong>), Dopamine Chamber<\/em> showcases a band that continues to broaden its musical horizons, evolve and experiment without losing its distinctive identity.<\/p>\n

The response to Dopamine Chamber<\/em> has been remarkable, with NME<\/strong> hailing Fontaines D.C. as \u201cthe band of the decade\u201d and The Guardian<\/strong> calling them \u201cthe best band of their generation\u201d, awarding the album five out of five stars. The album also debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, just as Skinty Fia<\/em> did in 2022, marking the second time Fontaines D.C. have topped the chart.<\/p>\n

With five albums, a string of outstanding songs and a reputation as one of the finest live bands around, Fontaines D.C.<\/strong> are no longer the next big thing. They have become one of the most important and influential bands of their time, with an appeal that extends beyond the rock scene and every new release now an event of international significance. And all signs suggest that, even at this level, the biggest chapters in their story still lie ahead.<\/p>\n
