Boy Harsher and Lebanon Hanover at ERGOSTASIO 35
Release Athens 2027 presents Boy Harsher and Lebanon Hanover on Tuesday 1 June at ERGOSTASIO35. Two of the most distinguished and influential acts in contemporary darkwave, both with a special connection with Athens audiences, are coming together in the Greek capital for the first time for a show set to be one of the highlights of the new concert season, while also inaugurating one of the city’s most eagerly anticipated new venues.
BOY HARSHER
Continuing to create music with someone after the personal relationship that brought you together has ended is no small feat. For Boy Harsher, their new album GET MEAN, released last September, emerged from this difficult situation, turning loss, grief and separation into a story of survival and renewal. Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller remain true to the dark aesthetic that first brought them recognition, while exploring brighter, more pop-oriented directions without losing any of their identity.
The pair met while studying film in Savannah, Georgia, and began working together under the name Teen Dreamz, with Matthews writing and narrating stories and Muller composing the music to accompany them. In 2014, they adopted the name Boy Harsher and released their debut EP, Lesser Man, featuring “Pain”, a track that went on to become one of the decade’s biggest underground anthems.
Their debut album, Yr Body Is Nothing (2016), and the Country Girl EP (2017) helped establish them in the contemporary darkwave scene, while Careful (2019) expanded their sonic palette, combining minimalist beats, dark synths and Matthews’ distinctive, sensual voice. In 2022, with The Runner, the soundtrack to the short film of the same name, which they created themselves, they brought their musical and cinematic work even closer together.
Known for their explosive live performances, Boy Harsher return to Athens to perform tracks from their new album alongside the songs that have established them as a leading force in the sound they have pursued with remarkable consistency.

LEBANON HANOVER
Lebanon Hanover are a darkwave/post-punk duo formed by Larissa Iceglass and William Maybelline. They met in 2010 while exchanging records from the ’80s on Last.fm, and when they finally met in person in Sunderland, England, they began writing music together almost immediately. From their earliest days, they found a label home at Athens-based Fabrika Records, with which they continue to work to this day.
Their first three albums, The World Is Getting Colder, Why Not Just Be Solo and Tomb for Two, were released in less than a year and a half, establishing them as one of the most exciting new acts in European coldwave. They followed these with Besides the Abyss (2015), recorded in Athens, Let Them Be Alien (2018) and Sci-Fi Sky (2020). In 2025, they returned with Asylum Lullabies, continuing a journey that has taken them from Europe to America and Australia.
From “Gallowdance”, which remains their best-known track, to “Alien”, “Kiss Me Until My Lips Fall Off” and “Saddest Smile”, Lebanon Hanover have built a discography that has reached beyond the underground scene, earning them one of the most devoted followings in dark electronic music.
