The fourth day of Release Athens 2025 was one of the most highly anticipated, and the three bands that shared the stage at Plateia Nerou more than lived up to our expectations.

Shame opened the evening with an explosive set from the first to the last minute. With highlights including the incredible “Six Pack,” the atmosphere of “Adderall,” the fan favorite “One Rizla,” and their excellent new song “Cutthroat,” Charlie Steen’s crew celebrated their return to the festival after 6 years with a truly outstanding performance.

Shame opened the evening with an explosive set from start to finish. Highlights included the incredible “Six Pack”, the brilliant “Adderall”, fan-favorite “One Rizla”, and their excellent new song “Cutthroat”. Charlie Steen’s crew celebrated their return to the festival after six years with a truly outstanding performance.

Boy Harsher immediately took over next, the biggest band to emerge from the broader dark scene in recent years, something that Augustus Muller and Jae Matthews reminded us of with their show. The duo gave us a flawless show in front of thousands die-hard fans that danced and sang along with them, performing some of their top songs like “Come Closer,” “Give Me A Reason,” “LA,” “Fate” among many others.

The stars of the evening were, of course Fontaines D.C., a band we’ve been fortunate enough to follow from the beginning of their journey, witnessing their evolution from next big thing to one of today’s top bands. . We’re talking about a group that has crammed a series of stunning songs into just five years, many of which we heard live yesterday: “Jackie Down The Line,” “Boys In Better Land,” “Televised Mind,” “A Hero’s Death,” and “Bug” are just some of the songs they played.

But they saved the best until last. Fontaines D.C.’s encore was a unique experience, giving their devoted fans the opportunity to sing along to four of their most important songs word for word. These were “Romance”, “In the Modern World”, “I Love You” and, of course, the biggest indie anthem of recent years: “Starburster”, for which Charlie Steen from Shame took to the stage.
