The biggest names in the local hip hop scene at Release Athens 2023
Release Athens 2023 will close in the most impressive way on Thursday, July 27th, with the mighty Wu-Tang Clan. RZA, Method Man, GZA, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, U-God, Masta Killa, Cappadonna and Inspectah Deck will take the stage at Plateia Nerou to remind us why they are considered the most important and influential group in the history of hip-hop music.
They will be joined by electric British rapper Ocean Wisdom and some of the biggest names in the local hip-hop scene. TAF LATHOS, Ethismos & Melow and Twinsanity with DJ Micro will round off a great line-up, while Junior SP. will kick off this historic night with his musical selections.
TAF LATHOS, (Panagiotis Kyriakou), is one of the main figures and most innovative representatives of the Greek hip hop scene. Founder of Bashment Records and member of Psychodrama 07, he started out as an MC and beat maker in 2001 and to date has released 6 albums, dozens of singles and a mid-length film that completely visualised the album “DECA”.
In the same period, he has collaborated on recordings with conductor Stavros Xarchakos and Dimitra Galani, shared the stage with top international artists such as Damian Marley, Cypress Hill and the Monophonics, performed at music festivals in France and Belgium and recorded in Japan.
TAF LATHOS is a constantly evolving artist who, with hip-hop as his starting point and reference, has managed to spread the culture of hip-hop to diverse audiences with his musical range and the power of his lyrics, and has carved out an upward and multi-dimensional path in the local independent music scene.

Ethismos became involved in hip-hop culture at a very young age, break-dancing, graffiti and rapping with the “Ellhniko Skandalo” crew. Dynamic, articulate, straightforward and without unnecessary fanfare, “Portuguese” earned the respect of the rap scene from his first steps.
In 2018, he was introduced to the producer Golden Child. The EP “Face Control” was followed by a series of singles and important collaborations, and in 2022 the LP “Made in Athens” was released – and the rest is history. Repeated sold-out shows in Athens and a highly successful national tour confirmed that Ethismos is much more than just a top newcomer. At the moment, he is at the peak of his career, which makes his upcoming appearance (with Melow on the decks) at Release Athens 2023 all the more exciting.

It was in 2011 that twin brothers Ray and Yiannis, now known as Twinsanity, started playing music and improvising on the streets of Athens, although they were born in Ashford Surrey, UK. They soon caught the attention of the city’s underground hip-hop community and landed on the roster of Bashment Records.
Their first full-length album, The Quest, was released in 2016. It featured collaborations with established artists in the Greek hip hop scene, such as Taf Lathos and MC Yinka, as well as street musicians such as Naal and Babou G., and immediately cemented Twinsanity at the forefront of Greek hip hop.
Their last full-length was ‘Vulture Culture’, which featured production by musicians from various countries around the world, and they are currently finishing recordings for their forthcoming new album, which is expected to be released by the end of the year.

Junior SP. started DJing in 1992 and it took him only 2 years to realise that promoting breaks and bass music would be his life’s mission. As a member of Infinity, he started promoting at the legendary Alsos between 1994 and 1996, and from 1996 until today he has been the mastermind behind Innersense Productions, which has hosted more than 70 artists from the international bass scene in our country.
In 2002, after a decade of DJing, he entered the studio for the first time, and his first official release came in 2005, when he collaborated with Milto Eph on Timeless Playground (KLIK Records), which was one of the top releases of the year by the music press.
In recent years, Junior SP. has been more active than ever, organising nights in big venues and concert halls, DJing in countless clubs/bars and festivals all over Greece, being included in the line-up of nights and festivals in the UK, Belgium, Romania and Croatia (Outlook Festival) and having releases on In Da Jungle Recordings, Liquid Drops, Tuna Recordings, Bashment Records and KNKUC, among others.
