Release Athens 2025: Photo-story IDLES, Glass Beams, Sprints

Nights like these are where “legends” are born, and the three bands that took the stage at Plateia Nerou for the second day of Release Athens 2025 gave us countless moments worth remembering for years to come.

The evening kicked off with Sprints, the fresh blood of Ireland’s now-renowned indie scene, who confirmed what their flawless debut “Letter To Self” had already hinted at: this is a band destined to make waves worldwide, and soon.

After Sprints’ impressive debut performance, it was time for another act we were seeing live in Greece for the first time. Australia’s Glass Beams, with their gleaming masks, delivered a flawless set that brought the psychedelia of decades past into the present in a uniquely personal way. For about an hour, this distinctive trio earned the complete attention of the crowd that had now filled Plateia Nerou, managing to say so much about music’s captivating power without uttering a single word.

The night’s finale belonged of course to IDLES, a group that convinced even the most skeptical that they can dominate a major festival stage with the exact same energy they’d bring to a small Bristol basement 15 years ago. Joe Talbot’s crew delivered a set that had everything: fan favorites (“Mr. Motivator”, “Divide & Conquer”, “Danny Nedelko”), surprises (“Beachland”), but above all, authentic rock ‘n’ roll in a way you rarely encounter.

On Wednesday night, IDLES delivered a truly remarkable performance that deserves to be called “unforgettable,” and they were lucky enough to have a passionate crowd that never stopped singing and dancing along with them.
