It was an immensely enjoyable evening at Plateia Nerou yesterday, as the three acts on the bill delivered a memorable night of live music.
The evening opened with Saint Etienne, and it took no more than the opening notes of “Nothing Can Stop Us” to remind everyone just how remarkable the trio of Bob Stanley, Pete Wiggs and, of course, Sarah Cracknell truly are. Their beautiful rendition of “Only Love Can Break Your Heart”, accompanied by a photograph of its original composer, Neil Young, was undoubtedly one of those moments that will stay with us for a long time.
Next up was Slovenian producer Gramatik, who, with the help of stunning visuals, took the audience on a distinctive journey through electronic music, blending dubstep, hip-hop beats, trip hop and funk with live instrumentation.
All of this served as the perfect prelude to the theatrical extravaganza of the Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live tour. From the moment they stepped on stage until the very last note, Pet Shop Boys delivered a joyous celebration of their greatest hits, once again reminding everyone that they have written some of the finest pop songs of all time. The closing quartet of “Go West”, “It’s a Sin”, “West End Girls” and “Being Boring” spoke for itself.
