Photostory Release Athens x SNFNostos Day 1: David Byrne / Nation of Language / Deadletter
One of the most memorable evenings of this summer unfolded yesterday at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center’s Great Lawn, as Deadletter, Nation of Language and the incomparable David Byrne came together for a truly unforgettable night.
Deadletter opened the proceedings, proving once again why they are regarded as one of the most exciting new acts to emerge from the UK scene. With intensity, confidence and a commanding stage presence, they delivered a set that left a lasting impression. Next came Nation of Language, making their first-ever appearance in Greece and winning over the audience with their captivating blend of synth-pop and post-punk, a sound that has established them as one of the most compelling bands of their generation.
The finale belonged, as expected, to David Byrne. Backed by his exceptional band, he delivered a mesmerising, high-concept performance in which music, movement and theatricality coexisted seamlessly. Drawing from both his remarkable solo catalogue and Talking Heads’ invaluable legacy, Byrne held the audience’s attention from the very first note to the very last.
From the opening “Heaven” and highlights such as “Strange Overtones”, “(Nothing But) Flowers” and “Independence Day”, to the stunning closing run of “Psycho Killer”, “Life During Wartime”, “Once in a Lifetime”, “Everybody’s Coming To My House” and “Burning Down The House”, the evening became a true celebration of live music, the kind that lingers long in the memory after the final applause has faded.
