Shame will join Fontaines D.C. and Boy Harsher at Release Athens 2025

Release Athens 2025 welcomes Shame on Friday June 27th, at Plateia Nerou. The quintet from South London, undoubtedly one of the top bands to emerge from the British scene in recent years, will join Fontaines D.C. and Boy Harsher showcasing the very best in alternative music.

Shame formed in 2014 when five teenagers—vocalist Charlie Steen, guitarists Sean Coyle-Smith and Eddie Green, bassist Josh Finerty, and drummer Charlie Forbes—met at school and bonded over their shared love for the Fall, Television Personalities, Wire, the Stooges, and the writing of Irvine Welsh.

Their debut album “Songs of Praise” (2018)—recorded when they were barely in their twenties—positioned them at the forefront of an exciting new wave of U.K. bands reinterpreting post-punk in late 2010s.

“Drunk Tank Pink” (2021), produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Foals, Gorillaz), marked their musical maturation and propelled them into the U.K. Top 10. Exploring new sonic territories—from dance-punk rhythms to highlife influences—they proved their creativity knows no bounds.

“Food for Worms” (2023) represents the pinnacle of this journey. Working with legendary producer Flood (U2, Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins), Shame recorded each track live, capturing the incredible energy of their live performances while simultaneously confirming their prowess to craft compelling songs.

Following their outstanding performance at Release Athens 2019, Shame return to Plateia Nerou for an electrifying performance featuring standout tracks like “One Rizla,” “Concrete,” “Alphabet,” “Snow Day,” “Fingers of Steel,” and “Adderall,” in an evening dedicated to acts that will dominate the global scene in the years to come.
