Release Athens Moves to Markopoulo Complex and Welcomes The Neighbourhood
Release Athens opens a new chapter as it welcomes The Neighbourhood to Greece for the very first time on Friday June 25th, at Markopoulo Complex in Markopoulo, Attica. The acclaimed Californian band have become one of the most recognisable acts in contemporary alternative pop, combining rock, pop and R&B with a distinctive melancholic aesthetic. With billions of streams, appearances at some of the world’s biggest festivals and “Sweater Weather”, one of the most-streamed songs in Spotify history, among their defining hits, The Neighbourhood have built a remarkable international following.

The Markopoulo Complex, located within the Markopoulo Olympic Property in Attica, is a venue designed to host large-scale concerts, festivals and events. Its extensive grounds offer the flexibility to accommodate a variety of configurations, meeting the requirements of even the most demanding productions.
For Release Athens, the Markopoulo Complex will feature two stages, with the second housed in a 4,000 sq m tent, allowing even more artists to perform on each festival day. The covered stage will also give visitors the opportunity to arrive earlier and enjoy the opening acts sheltered from the sun in a cooler, more comfortable environment.
The venue also offers extensive on-site parking facilities, capable of accommodating thousands of vehicles. Access via Attiki Odos, together with the nearby Koropi Metro station, from which shuttle buses will operate to and from the venue, will make it easier for visitors to travel from different parts of Athens.
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Formed in California in 2011, The Neighbourhood quickly moved beyond the alternative scene from which they emerged. With charismatic frontman Jesse Rutherford at the helm and a visual aesthetic that became an integral part of their identity, the band soon established their place in contemporary pop culture.
Their breakthrough came with the single “Sweater Weather”, which featured on their debut album “I Love You.” (2013) and became one of the biggest alternative hits of its era. More than a decade later, the song is approaching 5 billion streams on Spotify and now ranks among the three most-streamed tracks in the platform’s history. Meanwhile, songs such as “Daddy Issues”, “Softcore”, “Reflections” and “You Get Me So High” have each surpassed one billion streams, demonstrating the remarkable staying power of their music and its continued appeal to a new generation of listeners.
The albums “Wiped Out!” (2015), “The Neighbourhood” (2018) and “Chip Chrome & The Mono-Tones” (2020) followed, with the band steadily developing their sound while retaining the dark, melancholic atmosphere that had become their trademark. After a lengthy hiatus, all five members reunited in the studio and returned in 2025 with “(((((ultraSOUND)))))”, their fifth studio album, born out of a freer, more spontaneous creative process.
Their return to the stage was accompanied by the biggest tour of their career, taking them to some of the world’s most prestigious arenas, including Madison Square Garden in New York, The O2 in London and Accor Arena in Paris.
