Thievery Corporation, The Wailers & BALTHVS στο Release Athens 2026
Release Athens 2026 welcomes Thievery Corporation, The Wailers and BALTHVS on Saturday July 11th at Plateia Nerou for a vibrant summer night where contemporary electronic rhythm meets Bob Marley’s timeless musical legacy. This grand celebration of the festival’s tenth anniversary would not be complete without Thievery Corporation, the band that has been inseparably linked to its journey from the very beginning. Alongside them, the greatest reggae band of all time, in a set filled with the unforgettable hits of the legendary Jamaican musician, as well as one of the most exciting new names in the psychedelic funk/R&B scene.
Thievery Corporation, the groundbreaking duo from Washington founded in 1995 by Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, have been a mainstay of electronic music for decades. Starting from their deep love for Brazilian music and inspired by the DIY philosophy of their city’s punk scene, they created early on the right conditions to maintain their artistic independence intact for thirty full years.
With an extensive array of influences ranging from dub and reggae to jazz, bossa nova, hip hop and Middle Eastern music, Thievery Corporation not only evolved into one of the most successful acts in their field, but also defined the downtempo/trip hop scene with their innovative productions and outstanding songs. From the classic “Sounds From The Thievery Hi-Fi” (1996) and “Mirror Conspiracy” (2000), to “The Richest Man In Babylon” (2002) and “The Cosmic Game” (2005) featuring Flaming Lips and David Byrne, as well as the more recent “The Temple of I & I” (2017) and “Treasures From the Temple” (2018), the duo has created one of the most esteemed catalogs of their era.

The Wailers are reggae’s most storied band, the legendary group with which Bob Marley toured and recorded from the beginning of his career until 1974, when he embarked on a solo career. Following Marley’s death in 1981, the band continued under the guidance of the iconic bassist, Aston ‘Familyman’ Barrett. Since 2016, the band has been led by his son, Aston Barrett Jr., and today’s line-up consists of seasoned reggae musicians who maintain the band’s distinctive sound while also evolving it. This was evident in 2024 with the release of the excellent Evolution, which was deservedly nominated for a Grammy in the Best Reggae Album category..
At their concerts, The Wailers perform all of Bob Marley’s classic hits, including “Is This Love”, “I Shot The Sheriff”, “Stir It Up”, “Jammin’”, “One Love”, “Get Up Stand Up”, “Could You Be Loved” and many more, honoring the legacy of a music that defined an entire era.
