Viagra Boys and Ecca Vandal join Limp Bizkit to kick off Release Athens 2026
Release Athens 2026 welcomes Viagra Boys and Ecca Vandal on Monday June 15th, at Plateia Nerou. The ferocious post-punk group from Sweden and the rapidly rising Australian singer-songwriter-rapper will turn up the intensity even further, joining headliners Limp Bizkit on one of the festival’s wildest and most unpredictable days.
Viagra Boys have long since outgrown any “up-and-coming” label. Since forming in Stockholm in 2015, the band has evolved into one of the most recognizable and idiosyncratic acts in contemporary indie music, building a universe where post-punk meets noise rock, funk, free jazz, and sharp social satire. With a core of musicians drawn from different scenes and backgrounds, Viagra Boys operate more as a collective than as a traditional rock band—and that is precisely their greatest strength.
After the acclaim they received with Cave World in 2022, they returned in 2025 with Viagr Aboys. Rawer, more danceable, and at the same time more ironic, their new record presents a band that avoids repetition, choosing instead to deconstruct both itself and the era it comments on. Masculinity, online paranoia, consumerism, and cultural decay once again pass through the distorting filter of their trademark humor.
Sebastian Murphy plays a key role in this dynamic as a frontman who embodies his role on stage, turning every performance into a chaotic, almost theatrical event. It is no coincidence that it is Viagra Boys’ live performances that have led them to some of the world’s biggest festivals and an ever-growing audience.
Their return to Release Athens, following their electrifying 2023 appearance that left a strong impression, was rather inevitable. Today they appear more confident and more relevant than ever—an act that does not merely refresh post-punk, but uses it as a vehicle to describe, with raw honesty and abundance of humor, the absurdity of modern life.

Ecca Vandal remains one of the most elusive figures on the contemporary music scene. Drawing from a foundation of jazz improvisation and a deeply rooted DIY ethos, the Australian artist moves effortlessly between alternative rock, hip hop, electronica, and soul, crafting an intensely dynamic sound driven more by energy and emotion than easy categorization.
Following the universal acclaim of her self-titled debut, she has recently returned with new material marking a more dynamic chapter in her career. From the explosive “Bleed But Never Die” to the more introspective moments of “Then There’s One” and “Cruising To Self Soothe,” , she cements her reputation as one of the most compelling new voices on today’s scene.
She has also established herself as a captivating performer, having appeared alongside the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus and The Prodigy, while last spring she joined Limp Bizkit on their European tour. On Monday, June 15th, she will be back on stage with them, in the first-ever appearance of both artists in Greece, on a festival day that promises relentless rhythm, energy, and non-stop excitement.
